There were plenty of questions to be answered from Mrs. Fisher's second grade class when they paid a visit to the Coast Guard Air Station. Most of the class had never had the chance to see the helicopters up close or to hear how the Coast Guard saves lives every year.

The crewmen that doubled as guides did a great job of watering down their roles and simplifying their missions so the kids could have a clear picture of the Coast Guard. After the fun and exciting fieldtrip the kids now have a better understanding and appreciation for the men and women at the Air Station.

Brownsmead Flats musicians Larry Moore and Ray Raihala shared an alligator story during guest readers day in Ms. Twombly's class.

They each read a story about an alligator and sang two songs about alligators - The Alligator Man and The Gator from Old Blind Slough ( a song of great local historical significance ) They also sang a song about Amelia Earhart, who we have been studying in Social Studies as a part of our Womens' History Unit!

An Earth Day surprise came in the form of hatched baby chicks for Ms. Acfalle's students.

In the corner of the room the peeping sounds of baby chicks made for a fitting theme on Earth Day. After watching the incubator for 21 days, the first of the dozen or so eggs began to crack and the excitement level rose for the kids.

Taking turns checking out the minutes old chicks, there were plenty of questions and a lot of curious minds trying to make sense of the process. The learning experience was exceptional as they learned not only about where chicks come from, but the parts of eggs and the fragile contents inside.
